Zonisamide (ZNS), also known as zonisamide, is a new antiepileptic drug. Since its launch in Japan in 1989, it has been used for over 30 years and has treated more than a million patients worldwide. Due to its unique chemical structure and broad-spectrum, potent antiepileptic effects, it is effective for both focal and generalized epilepsy, as well as epilepsy syndromes. Zonisamide is recommended by several domestic and international authoritative guidelines. It was approved for market in China in 2009 and is primarily used as an adjunctive treatment for partial-onset epilepsy in adults.
